SPRINGDALES SCHOOL DHAULA KUAN  It was a moment of immense pride for Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan as Charge d’ Affaires Mr. Thembela Ngculu, Counsellor Multilateral, South African High Commission  presided over as the Chief Guest at the Valedictory Function of Africa Week on Wednesday18th July 2018 at 11.00 a.m. in the School Auditorium. 

It was also an honour to receive Her Excellency Dr. H.N. Manzini, High Commissioner, High Commission of the Republic of South Africa who graced the occasion for a short time and appreciated the efforts of the school in embracing the legacy of Mandela.

Paying rich tributes to this Icon of Freedom, Dr. Jyoti Bose, Director, Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan urged the students to seek inspiration from the great son of Africa and at the same time remember the great son of India – Mahatma Gandhi – both stood for a just and humane society”.

Celebrating the Birth Centenary of Dr. Mandela, based on the theme Be the Legacy – Remembering Nelson Mandela” students participated in myriad activities including Cleanliness Campaign, Planting saplings in the school Campus, donating books and stationery items and holding sessions for the children of special needs .

Recalling the struggle of South Africa, the School Choir expressed gratitude to Mandela for his untiring efforts through their song presentations. In an attempt to sensitize the younger generation to Nelson Mandela’s ‘long walk to freedom’, the students presented articles and audio video presentations. In a befitting tribute to Dr. Mandela, the talented dancers of the school presented the song Asimbonanga” sung by Joan Baez.

The Audio Visual presentation entitled “Springdales and South Africa – An Enduring Relationship” reflected on the journey of Africa Club initiated by Dr. Rajni Kumar, Founder Principal and Chairperson, Springdales Education Society and her steadfast support for the South Africans in their fight for democracy.

In an informative and inspirational speech, Mr. Thembela Ngculu encouraged the students to defend the legacy of this great statesman and realise his vision of a democratic, just and equitable society.
